Asfalto Al Otro LadoAsfalto (Spain)Al Otro Lado (1978)Genres: progressive rock, heavy progressive, hard rock

review by thomas

This is the Spanish group Asfalto’s most progressive album according to several sources. They sing in Spanish. The keyboards include synthesizers, synthesizers that here and there sounds really dated – sometimes on the edge of torture as proven by the second song which can’t be listened to since it sounds like some eighties synth group. The whole song is so silly; it’s not only the synthesizers.

The sound is the sound of the Mediterranean progressive scene and that of the South American scene. It’s guitar and keyboard driven progressive rock, not very original but it’s done with passion and it works quite well most of the time. The dated synthesizer sound is, however, a major drawback as are the singer’s sometimes over-trying voice. The sound quality is not fully satisfying.

A decent album – no more, no less.
