This is Beggars Opera’s third release. I haven’t heard any of their other releases and I am frankly not that interested. Here they sound like a more polished Uriah Heep. If you remove the highs and lows of Uriah Heep you get a band that is never downright silly, never exciting and above all; always boring. A cover of Jim Webb’s “MacArthur Park” was apparently not a good idea. The fact that it is the most interesting track on the album says it all. There is simply nothing that grabs you on it. The melodies are obvious but weak and the playing seems uninspired. Avoid.
