Exploit (Italy)Crisi (1972)Genres: rock, pop, progressive rockThis pretty unknown group recorded an album with two very different sides to it. Side A contains a 20-minute suite of classic Italian progressive rock with domination from the keyboards. This is done with skill and is very enjoyable, though the piece doesn’t work all the way. The keyboards are excellent, with a terrific organ sound and with the always lovely cembalo you can’t go wrong. Add to this a good seventies drum sound, a good bass as well as some fine singing and you get a, for the most time, very nice little suite.
Side B, on the other hand, is made up of short melodic rock/pop tracks, several very commercial sounding and not very enjoyable at all. Here are, however, two good ones included on this side but they can’t make up for the overall poor quality of this side.
The band plays well, the singer is good and the keyboards give you good vibrations but the album as a whole is very uneven. At its best it’s top Italian keyboard driven progressive rock that’s offered, at its worst it’s commercial pop sweetness.
