review by thomas

Rather primitive heavy progressive rock with focus on organ and guitar. In fact “Frumpy 2” can sometimes be very close to the sound of Deep Purple when Frumpy is in their most intensive mood. Beggars Opera also comes to mind albeit Frumpy never sounds as jovial as them. For Frumpy isn’t just heavy; they are also pretty dark.

Four long tracks meet us on this 1972 offering and the first two songs works really well and both have strong second halves. The other two tracks have some major problems though. “Take Care of Illusion” isn’t bad but sounds a little too much alike the previous songs and the closer “Duty” runs on empty gas, it has a long jam in the middle for about eight minutes without ever getting anywhere, never sounding particular exciting. The drums from Carsten Bohn and the unique voice of singer Inga Rumpf highlight this album. Inga has a very deep, strong and dark voice.

Sorry to say the songs on this album are damaged by the lack of surprises, the lack of changes. In aftermath it should probably have been a great idea to make something different on side B, some surprises there would have done this album good.
