Ibis IbisIbis (Italy)Ibis (1975)Genres: progressive rock, hard rock

review by daniel

Ibis should not interest anybody into prog, or even Italian prog. They play almost-but-not-quite-decent 70s hard rock of the cheesier kind, albeit with some progressive tendencies. The exception is the “tribute” to Janis Joplin that is just pure bad taste. The group featured members that were formerly in New Trolls, so they might be of interest to die hard New Trolls fans (if such things exist). Everybody else better stay away.

A very unsatisfactory affair from this New Trolls offshot. Two tracks are sung in English and that was not a very good idea. Some heavy moments and some more pop inspired moments are present throughout the album. There are some moments that are good (usually it comes down to some seconds or a minute or so) but in no way can these rare occasions save this album from being a major disappointment. “Ritrovarci Qui” is the song with which they actually come close to make an entirely good song. And the group’s voices are really lame, almost annoying.

This is a failure and a trap for Italian progressive fans… don’t step in it.
