Samadhi (Italy)
Samadhi (1974)
Genres:pop, progressive pop, symphonic rock
Samadhi consisted of former Raccomandata Ricevuta Ritorno, Uovo di Colombo and Teoremi members so on paper their only album could be very interesting. Not surprisingly then, it’s not. There are some tracks that’s just commercial pop sweetness and really embarrassing. Then we have some highly symphonic songs in nature that still manages to sound like commercial pop sweetness. Apparently they wanted to be avant-garde and make money at the same time, and ended up with nothing. There is also one song with a long middle-section where they try to jazz things up and fails utterly. But then, not uncommon, there’s one song on which they succeeded with everything and made a splendid song. The song is called “L’Ultima Spiaggia” and features a choir, which dominates the song. After a quiet intro comes a song based part with heavy drums, some fine piano and flute and even some harp. Then it goes into a calm section with flute and the choir appears at a very soft and low level. From here the choir and the music starts to build up, layer after layer, increasing in might, more people joins the choir and the drummer starts to bash pretty furiously at his drums till the climax is reached and the song starts to fade. This is eight minutes of euphoria. Why dwell upon one good song when he after all is going to advice us to avoid this record as is the norm, I hear you thinking. Actually I find the song so good that I think the album is worth getting just for that one song. I don’t go as far as to recommend you buying it, but if you find the review of that song attractive….
