T2 It'll All Work Out In Boomland T2 (UK) It'll All Work Out In Boomland (1970) Genres:rock, progressive rock, proto prog

review by thomas

T2 were a trio of guitar, bass and drums, with the drummer on vocals and the guitarist also playing keyboards. Their foundation is definitely rock and they are an early progressive band but anyhow quite developed for the time. Still they play in the progressive rock vein with emphasis on rock, this is not King Crimson or Procol Harum material. The four songs on the album also benefits from some well-placed horns. Three songs meet us on side A: “In Circles”, “J.L.T.” and “No More White Horses”. All are top-notch music but the latter has to be pointed out especially, it’s just gorgeous; with an amazing intro, then the fragile acoustic moment and some really beautiful piano playing, well-placed horns and splendid vocals, so damn good! Side B has just one song, the 21 minute long “Morning” which has less horns and keyboards but otherwise just as good as almost anything on side A. It is of course an early attempt at a sidelong song that doesn’t rely on diverse solos. And though it features some struggling they in the end came out with a very good song that holds up just fine. Add to this – at least on my, now quite old, CD version put out by SPM in 1991 – three bonus tracks recorded live in the BBC studios, in October 1970. These songs, a version of “In Circles” and the (to my knowledge) never before released “Questions and Answers” and “CD” (no, it’s not a prophecy!), are just as good as the songs on the original album and with surprisingly good sound quality. As you can guess “It’ll All Work Out In Boomland” is an early classic.
